Happy World Architecture Day 2016!

October 3, 2016

Every first Monday of October, we celebrate World Architecture Day. It’s a happy opportunity to highlight all the great designs and unique projects that architects take on every day throughout the year.

It should come as no surprise that architects are near and dear to our hearts, seeing as many use AutoCAD for designing and documenting their projects. To help celebrate World Architecture Day 2016, we’ve put together a number of great design projects that inspired us this year.

National Stadium Brasilia by Castro Mello Architects

Are you a sports fan? Well, this architectural masterpiece will be right up your alley. Check out how AutoCAD was critical to the design of the National Stadium Brasilia.

California Academy of Sciences living roof

If you’ve been to San Francisco in the past several years, there is a good chance you visited this natural science museum. The animals and exhibits inside are amazing, but what’s truly unique is the building’s 2.5-acre living roof. See how engineers from Arup constructed systems for water conservation, power generation, wind and ventilation dynamics, and sunlight penetration to support both a coral reef and a rain forest inside the building.

Projects focused on protecting the environment

Our friends at ArchDaily feature a great roundup of projects—from health facilities to schools and resorts—that work toward protecting our environment. Which is your favorite?

P.S. In case you missed it, another favorite SF attraction is the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Read about the recent SFMOMA expansion, another project that featured the use of AutoCAD, in this AutoCAD Blog post.
