REAL 2016, happening March 8th and 9th is right around the corner! And with less than two weeks until this exciting mix of speakers, exhibitors and attendees all gather together for two days of discussions, breakout sessions and interactive activities, I wanted to give everyone a quick update.
The REAL DEAL — a new addition to REAL 2016 — is an exciting startup competition which will kick things off from 9am – 10pm on March 8th. Choosing the finalists was a difficult process of course, as there were many great entries to choose from. Three of the four winners were posted on the site as of yesterday. These startups will present 5 minute pitches to our panel of VC’s (Sven Grabhold, Trae Vassallo and Zack Schilhorn), and receive some immediate feedback. This session will be moderated by another phenomenal VC, Jesse Devitte.
At 10am, REAL Talk and REAL Live begin simultaneously. On the REAL Talk stage, we have Eyal Geyer, a phenomenal artist talking about his ultra-unique project called #LaughinSpace. Kicking things off on the REAL Live stage is a digital fabrication specialist Arthur Young-Spivey, from the National Reprographics Institute in New York. Arthur will be talking us through what’s real and what’s hype about the digital fabrication technologies he’s been using in his work at NRI.
Be sure to visit the REAL Live exhibition floor, where a multitude of great companies and organizations will guide you through their wares via unique interactive experiences. For example, be sure to visit Frank Sculli and his BioDigital Human interactive visualization display, and be sure to check out the Smithsonian’s section on scanning the Apollo 11 lunar module.
Also on the REAL Live exhibition floor will be special interactive areas called REAL Do. Featuring mind-blowing interactive activities for all attendees to enjoy, be on the lookout for an unforgettable experience from great companies such as Intel and Leica.
Using our Crowd Compass app (included with registration), attendees will receive notifications for breakout sessions to get up close and personal in Herbst Pavilion with various selections of speakers. For 15-20 minutes, ask questions about a speaker’s presentation and demo, make plans to collaborate and communicate, and gain a deeper understanding or clarification of something that intrigued you during their presentations.
This is just a small cross-section of what is shaping up to be a great event. It’s the ideology behind REAL 2016 that is important to keep in mind. Individuals, companies and other organizations are finding themselves in an emerging 3D technology ecosystem where inspiration and collaboration can be found by investigating how everyone at REAL 2016 is leveraging similar technology to do vastly different things across an array of industries and disciplines around the world.
