Under the Hood - All things PDM and PLM

AU 2018

Are you looking for Vault classes at Autodesk University 2018? Here are all the classes in the General Industry Learning track.

MFG219604 – Autodesk Vault – What Is It & Why Do I Need It?

This class will be an overview of Autodesk Vault products, and what they can do for your company. We will talk about the features of the different products, and help you figure out the right questions to be asking when deciding if Vault is right for you.

SD226750 – Managing CAD/BIM Standards Using Vault

This class is designed to assist you in building a new workflow for utilizing Vault for managing company standards within your organization. It will cover how to set up custom file categories, file lifecycles, user groups to support an innovative way of managing company standards within Vault along with tracking any changes. We will discuss how to have either AutoCAD, Revit, or Inventor to look at the new working folders for updates to standards and content. Finally, we will learn how to automate deploying these changes to all users so they will always have the latest and greatest content and standards as soon as they become available.

MFG225143 – API enhancements in Vault 2019

This class covers new API functionality in Vault 2019. This functionality was added to support the Project Sync feature but was designed to be used by any client-side Vault customization. Topics include Entity Attributes (which can associate additional data with any Vault object), Scheduled Jobs (which allow execution of custom jobs at a given time and cadence), and more.

MFG227952 – Vault Upgrades – The Mad Methods of Keeping Current

We all know that it’s best to keep on current versions of applications, but upgrading a Vault environment can be a daunting task for some. We’re here to show you that you can do this successfully and within a very reasonable time frame, even in a very complicated environment (e.g. Global SQL Server replication). Join Matt Williams (Komatsu Mining) and Stephen Porath (Autodesk) to discuss real-world experiences, best practices, tips, tricks and everything in between covering upgrading complex Vault environments. If you are responsible for upgrading your own Vault environment (big or small, simple or complex), this class is for you.

MFG219615 – Autodesk Vault – Configuration Part 1

Now that you have purchased one of the Vault family of products, you need to get the environment set up for you and your users. This class will look at what to do once the Vault Server has been installed. We will discuss topics such as creating users and groups, setting up permissions and security, establishing projects and working folders, and getting your CAD content into the Vault itself.

IM196620 – CAD Management When you do not have the time

You now have the responsibility to manage CAD within your department and/or organization, but your job title does not include CAD Manager. You do not or cannot dedicate your time full time to this task. So how do you do this? We will use my transition from reseller to mining equipment manufacturer in how to get buy-in from management, participation by the users (and your peers), where to start, and how to proceed. Let us talk about standards, processes, procedures, training, CAD, management, and continual leadership.

IM223989 – Whose Version Should We Believe?—Revising the Story with Vault

This class introduces you to the powerful tools that are available in Vault Workgroup and Vault Professional for revision management, approval workflows, and engineering change orders (ECO). Learn how categories are used to control the flow of your data and versions and revisions are intertwined. We also cover how to apply different revision schemes and how to initiate and track change via a change order.

MFG228256-R – Ask the Vault Developer

Ever wondered why Vault works the way it does? Ever had a question about a specific workflow or piece of functionality? Now is your chance to interact with a senior developer on the Vault product. Ask them about any aspect of Vault and understand the reasons for the current functionality. Take the opportunity to interact directly with the people who make Vault work and evolve. This will be an open conversation on the hows and whys of Vault workflows and technical details.

MFG225551 – A Tale of Two Upgrades, Vault and Inventor

We will help you plan a methodical upgrade and roll out. What is the recommended and required order of operations? Vault? Inventor? Client? Server? This will include how to update custom content center libraries while still having them available for the current drawings and adding new standard libraries. We will show you how do you upgrade and Migrate your Vault databases. We will discuss tips on using enterprise software deployment tools to update all clients in your organization. By the end of this Class, you will be fully armed and ready with all the knowledge you need to upgrade your Vault and Inventor environment.

Autodesk Vault Professional comes with the free Job Processor application. In my company, we call our Job Processors “Lady Gaga,” and we like to keep them “singing.” We are running a globally replicated Vault Professional system, with many Job Processors attached to the replicated servers. Here we can use the Job Processor application to work on Vault jobs for us and speed up production in our engineering environment. This Instructional Demo will cover tips & hacks of the Autodesk Job Processor, from workstation setup & optimization, clustering, scheduled tasks, advanced logging and much more. Some of these tips and tricks are obvious, but some are also hidden. We will get your Vault Professional jobs running smoothly and more effectively!
