How Autodesk’s Month of Mentorship empowers mentors and ignites mentees

3 min read

January is National Mentoring Month in the United States, and at Autodesk, we celebrate with our “Month of Mentorship,” a global campaign dedicated to recognizing mentoring and the impact it can have on people’s lives.

Throughout the month, we post blogs and prompts with the goal of “demystifying mentorship,” increase engagement and highlight some of our top mentors at Autodesk, as well as share success stories from Autodeskers who have participated in our mentorship program. We also host an AMA (“Ask Me Anything”) in our mentorship Slack channel where Autodeskers can ask about mentorship, the platform we use to facilitate our mentorship program, or any other questions they might have.

Navigating success together

We currently have about 4,000 Autodeskers enrolled in our mentorship platform who are either currently in a mentorship connection or ready to be matched! Here’s what a few of them had to say about our mentorship program:

“I’ve always been a huge fan of mentoring – I see it as an opportunity to give back! It’s been great mentoring someone new to Autodesk, especially since I recently celebrated my one-year anniversary. My mentee reached out to me as she recently graduated with a degree in Human Resources and is interested in working within Talent Acquisition (TA). She was able to get a stretch assignment with the TA team.”

CJ Sims, Global Learning & Development Program Manager

“I made a professional connection not based on my own team but based on being in similar roles at different stages of our professional development. I learned that I’m not that different from my mentor and my experience on my team is the shared experience of software engineers in all teams. Walking out of sessions with a clearer understanding of what I needed to do for specific challenges was a big boost to my confidence and motivation because I was no longer stuck; I felt validated, supported, guided, and encouraged to pick up the task with new insight.”

Owen Stone, Senior Software Engineer

“I am the only person on my team who is based in Barcelona, so it was great to connect with people here through the mentorship program. It also inspired me to create our own group mentorship programs. By getting to know people in the Barcelona office but also from other organizations, I’ve learned more about how I can contribute to the company.”

Lavinia Dieac, Sales Operations Analyst, Autodesk Forma

“Throughout my career, I’ve always had a mentor. As a relatively new employee, I was looking for help on how to get acquainted with the company and related industries. My mentor provided suggestions on how to gain exposure and opportunities to connect with other key team members. They also gave guidance on topics such as organization, career goals/performance, visibility, and project management. Mentorship has allowed me to leverage my mentor’s experience at Autodesk with navigating the company and various teams. This has allowed me to work at meeting and exceeding expectations by understanding how teams and products operate.”

Dev Doongoor, Senior Principal Engineer
