The next few weeks\u202foffer opportunity for a\u202fhistoric step forward in combatting climate change if Congress and\u202fgovernments at\u202fthe\u202f<\/span>UN Climate Conference<\/span><\/a>\u202f<\/span>COP26 seize the\u202fmoment and\u202ftake bold action.\u202fAt\u202fAutodesk\u202fwe\u202fbelieve\u202fthat\u202f<\/span>together we can design\u202fand make\u202fa\u202fmore sustainable, resilient, and\u202fequitable\u202ffuture<\/span>.\u202f<\/span>That is\u202f<\/span>why\u202fprofessionals across\u202findustries\u202fchoose\u202fAutodesk\u202fto\u202fdesign\u202fand make more sustainable products and communities\u202fand\u202fwhy\u202fwe\u2019re\u202fimproving our own operations through science-based climate goals to run Autodesk as a carbon-neutral business.\u202f<\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We know that\u202ftechnology plays a crucial role in the global\u202fchallenge of\u202fcombating\u202fclimate\u202fchange.\u202fIt\u2019s the reason\u202fwhy we continue to invest in solutions that use AI to deliver\u202fuseful\u202finsights for\u202fmore\u202fsustainable decision-making\u202fand\u202fautomation to streamline old and wasteful processes.\u202fWe\u2019re also\u202fcatalyzing\u202finnovation between and beyond our industries\u202fand\u202fI\u2019m\u202fproud\u202fthat\u202fwe\u2019re\u202fjoining efforts like\u202f<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>World Business Council for Sustainable Development<\/span><\/a>\u00a0project on Transforming the Built Environment\u202fand the\u202f<\/span>Carbon Leadership Forum.<\/span><\/a>\u202f\u202f\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, private sector efforts will not be sufficient to bring lasting change on a global scale<\/span>.\u202f<\/span>W<\/span>e\u202fmust engage\u202fpolicymakers\u202fto enact\u202frobust policies at all levels of government\u202fto\u202freduce the impacts of climate change and\u202fsupport\u202fclean energy, so that\u202fbusinesses\u202fcan compete and thrive in the low-carbon\u202feconomy.\u202fWith so much at stake, the time to act is now\u2014I believe\u202f2021 represents the best\u202fopportunity\u202ffor\u202fpolicy action\u202fto protect the climate.\u202f<\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been meeting with key climate\u202fleaders\u202fin the White House to express our\u202finterest in\u202fpolicies to green the built environment.\u202fWe support\u202fthe climate provisions\u202fcurrently pending in Congress\u202fin the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act\u202f(IIJA)\u202fand urge Congress to\u202finclude\u202fthe strongest possible\u202fclimate\u202fpolicies\u202fin the pending Build Back Better\u202fAct.<\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u202fIIJA\u202fwill reduce carbon emissions by investing in\u202fpublic transit, vehicle electrification,\u202fenergy efficiency\u202fand electric grid modernization, as well as projects to better fortify our infrastructure against,\u202fand make it more resilient to,\u202fthe severe and still-worsening effects of climate change.\u202fIt also includes a program to support better adoption of digital construction technologies to help build more sustainable roads and bridges.\u202fThe\u202fBuild Back Better\u202fAct\u202fincludes\u202fclimate-related\u202fmeasures aimed at our industries\u202fsuch as\u202f<\/span>environmental product declaration for construction materials and products, water system disaster resiliency, and updated\u202fbuilding codes for energy efficiency.\u202fEven more ambitious and critical are<\/span>\u202f<\/span>the Clean Energy Performance Program and expanded clean energy tax incentives\u202fwhich will\u202fsteer\u202fthe nation to a sustainable power sector by 2035.\u202f<\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As leaders across nations prepare to gather this fall at\u202f<\/span>COP26,\u00a0<\/span>it is\u202fcritical for the U.S. and other global economies to move boldly and decisively to\u202fhold-off climate catastrophe.\u202fCongress has a chance to demonstrate to the world that the U.S. is taking ambitious action to prevent climate catastrophe\u2014all while growing industries and the economy. We urge swift legislative action on these significant climate provisions.\u202f<\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally,\u202fAutodesk is\u202f<\/span>joining business<\/span>es<\/span><\/a>\u202fand\u202f<\/span>our customers<\/span><\/a>\u202fin\u202fcalling on global leaders to\u202fcommit to\u202flimiting temperature rise to 1.5<\/span>\u00b0<\/span>C and transition to a net-zero economy.\u202fFocusing on the manufacturing and Architecture,\u202fEngineering, and\u202fConstruction (AEC)\u202findustries\u202fwill be\u202fkey to meeting this target,\u202fsince\u202fnearly 40% of energy-related carbon emissions come\u202ffrom the building sector and\u202f<\/span>approximately 19%\u202fof global emissions from manufacturing<\/span>*.\u202f<\/span>It will take an industry-wide mind shift\u2013and the right government incentives\u202fglobally\u2013to approach the problem holistically with a full life-cycle view of new and existing products and projects, from design to construction to operation to\u202frenovation.\u202fWe know the\u202fdigital\u202ftools\u202falready exist\u202fto help meet our collective climate goals\u202fand\u202fI\u2019m\u00a0proud\u202fAutodesk is\u202fbuilding\u202fthem. \u202f<\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
