BIM 360 Docs iOS Update – October 23, 2017

Joan Allen
October 23, 2017

The latest version (2.8) of the BIM 360 Docs iOS app is now available for download on the App Store.  Version 2.8 includes the ability to walk through a 3D model (first person navigation), the option to edit existing markups, and a “list view” for folders and documents.

First-person 3D Model Navigation

Now you can navigate the interior of your project model with the new “first person” walk tool.  Simply select the “walk” icon in the lower left to activate the first person mode.  With the navigation wheel, you can select your direction and easily stop or change course to focus in on the important project details that you need.

Edit Markups

We have added the ability to edit existing markups (that you created, similar to the experience on Docs web). From the markup panel, select the markup you want to edit, and then select the 3-dot menu.  Choose “edit” and to make any changes or additions.

Document and Folder “List View”

In response to customer feedback, we have added a “List View” option (in addition to the Thumbnail View) so that you can more quickly and easily scroll through your list of project folders and documents.  Select the viewing option in the upper right menu to switch from Thumbnail to List view (and vice-versa).  We also provide the ability to preview a document from the list view (select the three dot menu on the right), like this:

We hope that you enjoy these latest updates, and please send us your feedback!

I really hate split development releases between platforms such as this as it creates great confusion.

Is there a comparison chart of features between iOS and Android, and one that is maintained?

As an Android user and when I find when users asking me if the mobile app has certain features, I immediately reach for my Android device to check.

Often I forget that the iOS app is more developed, and I find myself telling users/companies that certain features are missing, only to find later they are on iOS.

This kind of development creates a divide and confusion. I understand you are developing faster on iOS, but how about you just hold back on releasing those features until you’ve done the same on Android!!
