The December 22, 2016 BIM 360 Docs update delivers the highly-requested “View” permission level; the ability to copy the latest version of any drawing, model, or file; sorting and filtering options in the issue list; and usability and quality enhancements. This release also includes an updated iOS app, with the ability to download and sync any folder and its contents.
Now Project Admins and Controllers can assign “View” permission at the folder level, providing greater options for managing project access. Users with view-only access can view documents, add markups or issues, but cannot upload files and documents. We have also changed the name of the “publish” permission to “upload.”
- All existing users, roles, or companies with “Publish” permission on a folder now have “Upload” permission.
- All existing users, roles, or companies with “Publish + View” permission on a folder now have “View + Upload” permission.
Copy any 2D drawing, 3D model, or other file
We have completely updated the “copy” capabilities in Docs. Prior to this release, you were limited to copying files in the “Project Files” folders. Now, the Copy action is available for any document in any folder, so that you can copy the current version of any extracted 2D sheet or 3D model in the “Plans” folders and subfolders, as well as copy any file in the “Project Files” folders and subfolders.
This new copy capability, along with Docs folder-level permission control, provides improved support for your publish and review workflows. For example, you can have one folder for the design team to share “work in progress” designs. At certain intervals or milestones, you can copy the latest version of the designs to another folder that the owner can access for review.
Issue List Improvements
Now you can filter and sort the project-wide Issue list. You can sort by status and creation date, and filter based on status, assignment, and across specific date ranges.
Usability and Quality Improvements
This release also includes a number of usability and quality improvements, including the ability to “select all” from the thumbnail view and a progress indicator when documents are loading.
iOS – Download and Sync any folder
With version 1.10 of the Docs iOS app, available now on the App Store, you can download any folder and its contents (including subfolders) for offline use. To download a folder and its contents, select the cloud icon in the upper right corner. To verify that your folder or document has completely downloaded, look for the check in the lower left corner of the thumbnail image.
