Joan Allen
February 17, 2017

The February 14, 2017 BIM 360 Docs update includes an updated Android app with offline access, RFI and Issue improvements, access to previous document versions, and notification enhancements.

BIM 360 Docs Android app – now with offline access

Version 1.2.0 of the Android app includes the ability to download documents for offline viewing.  We have also added the ability to change the status of an issue while offline, and now support viewing RFI’s created in Docs web.

Offline Access:  Now you can select and download 2D drawings and 3D models for offline access.  This also includes access to markups and issues, as well as the ability to change the status of an issue while offline.

RFI Enhancements

This update includes a number of improvements to the RFI feature, including enhancements to the RFI input form, the ability to review the RFI details directly from the RFI log, and the ability to create an RFI without associating it to a drawing.

The RFI form now includes an expanded field for the question and an additional field for the suggested answer.

Now you can access RFI’s directly from the list, and edit directly without having to navigate to the drawing.

You can also create an RFI directly from the RFI list.

We have added an RFI indicator in the drawing thumbnail view, similar to how Docs indicates if there are any open Issues or Markups.

Issue Enhancements

The Issue feature has been updated, so that you can review or edit issues directly from the Issue list and create an issue directly.  We have also expanded the size of the description field for improved usability.

Improved Folder Notifications

In direct response to customer feedback, we have added the Project Name to the folder notification email subject, so that team members working on multiple projects can more easily identify the activity on each project.

View Previous Versions

By default, Docs always shows you the latest version of the document.  Now you can choose to view an older version of any 2D drawing, 3D model, or image managed in Docs by selecting the History option and clicking on the particular version in the panel.

    Hi Bill –

Thanks for the suggestion!   We are planning to enhance the mobile apps with an RFI log in a future release.

    Best Regards,

Is the dev team looking into adding the RFI log into the iOS and Android app. Currently, it’s just Issues! Better yet, make the mobile app boot up with an activity dashboard that links you to the logs or activity stream. But, have the logs filter issues and RFIs assigned to that user or user’s company.

    Hi Chad –

Thanks for the feedback!  We will be fixing that layout issue with the RFI indicator in the next update.  We are also planning more enhancements, such as the ability to go to the document view.  Stay tuned, and please let us know if you have any other suggestions or feedback.

    Best Regards,

That’s a pretty solid list of improvements for Feb. Thanks for sharing.

    1 observation, and 1 question.

One of my thumbnail indicators is slightly off the list. You can even see the same in your image above.

And the ablity to pull up the Issue and RFI details from their respective lists is great.

But, are we likely to get an image preview of the sheet in a future update?

You can see in my example that I refer to an office location, which when viewed on a sheet its location is obvious as shown by a marker. But in this preview it is not. There isn’t even a link back to the sheet to view it.
