BIM 360 Docs Update – September 2, 2016

The September 2 release of BIM 360 Docs includes a streamlined process for adding new users and setting permissions, a new feature for attaching documents, such as RFI’s, to project drawings, and other usability and quality improvements.

Collaborate Faster

We have streamlined the process for adding new project members and granting secure access to project drawings, models, and other documents.

Since the initial release of Docs, we have provided the ability to assign permissions at the User, Role, or Company level.  While we recommend that customers leverage Roles and Companies (because it makes it easier to manage and maintain permissions across a project), we understand that some customers want to assign user-based permissions.  Until now, if a Project Admin or folder Controller wanted to assign folder permissions to an individual user, he or she had to invite the new user from the “Project Admin” screen and then wait until the invitation was accepted before assigning permissions.

Now, from within Folder Settings, Project Admins and Controllers can add invite new users and set permissions in a single step.  The new users will be listed as “pending” in both the Folder Settings and Administration screens until they accept the invitation.  Once a new user signs in, he or she can immediately and securely access all shared project documents and data.

Manage and maintain up-to-date Contract Documents

Many customers have told us that they want to use Docs to manage and to maintain an up-to-date record set of drawings that includes not only the most recent drawing versions, but also the most up-to-date RFI’s and change orders that are related to those drawings.  The latest version of BIM 360 Docs has delivered on that request.  Now, users can add attachments (hyperlinks to other contract documents managed in Docs) to markups on the drawings, so that all of the critical information is available to project team members.   Once the attachment has been added to the markup, users can view a preview from the markup panel or select the link to navigate directly to the attachment.

Easily identify drawings and models that require action

We have also added usability and quality enhancements in this release.  One of these improvements will make it easier to identify the drawings and models that require attention by displaying the indicators only on those documents with open markups and issues.
