How A-lab effortlessly deployed Autodesk Forma for its architects 

We recently had the pleasure of engaging in a conversation with Angie Mendez, Architect and Technology Director at A-lab, a process-driven architecture studio. Angie, in her pivotal role, emphasizes the importance she sees in helping A-lab transform into a data-driven organization and she credits Forma as an instrumental tool in supporting this transition. In our quick chat, she also delves deeper into how A-lab is harnessing the capabilities of Autodesk Forma, highlighting its intuitive nature and effortless ease of deployment.

Angie Mendez: My name is Angie, I work at A-lab, which is an architectural studio based in Oslo. We are 130 architects and trying to push for some of these sustainability goals. In my role as technology responsible in our company, it’s very important for me that we help transform A-lab into a data driven organization. 

Forma has been instrumental on supporting that goal into the design process. We use the results that we get from all these very complex data and translate them into knowledge that then can be applied into solutions that are put in place for urbanism and conceptual design. It’s integrated with the way how we work. So it’s enriching constantly our design decisions without having to create additional tasks for us. 

It’s a very accessible way of analyzing design, because the tools that we have used before are very complex and require a specialization. So what we see is that Forma can be implemented very painless. It’s as intuitive as just modeling and seeing the results in real time. 

I could say, with confidence that it has almost zero learning curve and it’s very easy to scale it up. What we enjoyed the most, using it at the office is to see how my colleagues, regardless of the level of experience that they have, understanding their design from different points of view. So it is very dynamic. What is there not to love?
