The sun hours analysis provides a visual map of sun exposure &#8211; it&#8217;s a major part of any architecture site analysis. It shows how many hours of direct sunlight your site and building receive on specific dates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h_acf61d4a55\">How to <strong>run Forma&#8217;s sun hours analysis<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click the <strong>sun<\/strong> icon located at the top of the right panel.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The right panel updates to show the sun hours analysis settings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Define the <strong>Analysis area, <\/strong>choose between:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Site limit <\/strong>to analyze only the defined site boundary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Entire model <\/strong>to analyze all geometry in the model.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the <strong>Analysis dates.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The default date is June 21st, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can change the date using the <strong>Date<\/strong> drop-down menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <strong>+<\/strong> icon at the top-right corner to add more dates to analyze.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the blue <strong>Run analysis<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h_69036d917d\"><strong>Reading the results<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the analysis results.\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click the link in the notification box, or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the blue button in the right panel when it changes to <strong>Open analysis<\/strong> instead of <strong>Run analysis.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Orbit, pan, and zoom around the model to visually examine the sun exposure map.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review the right panel <strong>Highlights<\/strong> and <strong>Area breakdown.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adjust the <strong>Settings<\/strong> to refine the results view:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Toggle between <strong>Analysis dates <\/strong>to compare their results.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use the <strong>Time interval <\/strong>slider to filter the result to specific hours of the day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h_170f30e30b\"><strong>Useful tools<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Inspect: <\/strong>pick specific points on your building or the ground to see the exact number of direct sun hours this point receives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Legend:<\/strong> filter the results to highlight the areas that fall within a specific range of sun hours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Camera: <\/strong>save a camera angle for later reuse and select one of 2 screenshot export options.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Screenshot (PNG) <\/strong>only exportsa visual display of your canvas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Screenshot with graphics (PNG) <\/strong>includes additional data such as the date, selected ranges, and category highlights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h_37e1a54091\">Results accuracy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The sun hours analysis uses ray tracing technology from NVIDIA\u2019s OptiX\u2122 Ray Tracing Engine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All surfaces in the analysis area are divided into measurement points using a Cartesian grid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The system checks each measurement point every 6 minutes to determine whether it is in sun or shade.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These checks accumulate into hourly totals of direct sunlight with reasonable accuracy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Small uncovered areas on complex geometry may appear gray in the analysis map.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cloud cover and weather conditions are not included in the calculation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>In just a few minutes you gain valuable insight into your proposal.
