It\u2019s the season of new launches at Autodesk, but of course, for us here at Forma, every week is launch week, and this last quarter has been as busy as ever.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>This last quarter we released 33 updates &nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It feels like we\u2019re really getting into the flow of things. I\u2019ve been talking to devs around the office, and the consensus seems to be that our initial Forma launch jitters are subsiding. The teams are finding time to lift their eyes and focus from what\u2019s directly in front of them and towards the horizon again. And if that\u2019s not a sign of spring, then I don\u2019t know what is!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since you\u2019re here, let\u2019s talk about what\u2019s what from Forma since last recap! Empowering architects to make informed decisions during all phases of design.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The beginning of integrated 3D sketch capabilities<\/strong> in Forma, we\u2019ve started merging our design tools into one sweet suite.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More trust in analyses: <\/strong>By empowering architects with better visualization of analyses and their assumptions, your clients will feel even more confident in your design.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Labels and measurement tools in Forma, <\/strong>leave a note in your project and let everyone know. Draw and describe is a great exercise for both kindergarten children, and us architects.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Easier access for collaborators and a growing set of APIs <\/strong>to play with if you\u2019re looking to get involved with Forma.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Embodied carbon predictions when it matters.&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Did you know that the built environment is responsible for as much as 42% of the world\u2019s annual global carbon emissions? Of these as much as 15% of these are embodied carbon, meaning the materials we put in our buildings. So, if what gets measured gets managed, this is one to measure for sure!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve released a tech preview of an <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.autodesk.com\/forma\/2024\/04\/02\/embodied-carbon-analysis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">embodied carbon analysis<\/a> in Forma; now at the stage of design you\u2019re at in Forma you likely haven\u2019t developed the project enough to precisely account for what kinds of materials, structure and so on you\u2019re going to decide on. But you\u2019ll likely have a direction or idea of what it\u2019s going to be. So based on this information only, and the designed conceptual massing, Forma leverages a machine learning model to estimate the embodied carbon of your design.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Autodesk Forma - Embodied Carbon Analysis\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3HSrTd5_vM0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen style=\"aspect-ratio:500 \/ 281;width:100%;height:auto;\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How the team is expanding our 3D modelling capabilities in Forma.&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Designing software is a lot different than designing architecture. Since joining the tech world, understanding what makes a good MVP (minimum viable product) and what that means for future capabilities really bent my mind. To bring great capabilities to users, a software team will first make the smallest possible feature to prove that it works. Once that little piece of software works, the flood gates may open. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bringing the new 3D constraints feature out from the 3D sketch sub mode and directly into Formas\u2019 main design mode is one of these MVPs. So, for now give your constraints setbacks, extrusions and anything else, and let\u2019s see how this unravels!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"646\" data-id=\"985\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.autodesk.com\/forma\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/163\/20240315-taper-extrude-1024x646.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-985\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.autodesk.com\/forma\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/163\/20240315-taper-extrude-1024x646.gif 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.autodesk.com\/forma\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/163\/20240315-taper-extrude-300x189.gif 300w, https:\/\/blogs.autodesk.com\/forma\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/163\/20240315-taper-extrude-768x484.gif 768w, https:\/\/blogs.autodesk.com\/forma\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/163\/20240315-taper-extrude-1536x969.gif 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8216;Trust me bro&#8217; no more. Show, tell and explain what estimations and limitations your analyses have.&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Our analysis suite is perhaps the strongest contribution Forma brings to the AEC Collection at Autodesk currently. It\u2019s a piece of the missing puzzle for all of us architects. By bringing data and proof of your design intent, you increase buy in from everyone involved. Analysis that both you and your client can trust is one of the keys to bringing good design to life. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This quarter the team have made several upgrades to not only how you can filter and represent your analyses, but also compare and filter them down into higher levels of detail. For example, you can now filter your noise results by time of day, because as you may suspect, noise at night is worse than noise during the day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-wistia-inc wp-block-embed-wistia-inc\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Autodesk Forma - Noise simplification visualization Video\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/embed\/iframe\/w8a00c0o8g?dnt=1\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" class=\"wistia_embed\" name=\"wistia_embed\" msallowfullscreen width=\"500\" height=\"239\" style=\"aspect-ratio:500 \/ 239;width:100%;height:auto;\"><\/iframe><script src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/assets\/external\/E-v1.js\" async><\/script>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Clearly see how the noise simplification model works with your detailed model<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Labeling, measurements and more collaboration in Forma.&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I used to joke that moving from school to <em>architecture<\/em> school means replacing the papers of notes with doodling in the margin, with drawings that have notes in the margins. No set of drawings are complete without labels, measurements and notes. And Forma has recently introduced updates such as a neat measurement tool and a nifty Labels feature. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn&#8217;t reinventing the wheel, but it\u2019s a recognizable and immediately understandable feature that have been oft requested so I&#8217;m glad to see them come to Forma. Mark up your drawings before sharing with your collaborators, so they get more context on what\u2019s what when they see your model. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh, and now those project invite links last for 30 days, up from seven, and people can request access to projects if they\u2019re not invited, should save us all a lot of time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-wistia-inc wp-block-embed-wistia-inc\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Autodesk Forma - Labels Video\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/embed\/iframe\/551nd9239p?dnt=1\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" class=\"wistia_embed\" name=\"wistia_embed\" msallowfullscreen width=\"500\" height=\"281\" style=\"aspect-ratio:500 \/ 281;width:100%;height:auto;\"><\/iframe><script src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/assets\/external\/E-v1.js\" async><\/script>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Use labels to collaborate better with others, or your future self. Future self will thank you.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Build with us; new HTTP APIs may be coming your way, developers!&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This last one is for the digital builders out there. We\u2019re continuing to invest in the ecosystem around Forma, with things like <a href=\"https:\/\/aps.autodesk.com\/en\/docs\/forma\/v1\/reference\/http-reference\/\">an alpha release of HTTP APIs<\/a>, where everything can break at any time, more and better documentation of the APIs, and <a href=\"https:\/\/aps.autodesk.com\/accelerator-program\">developer accelerators<\/a> all over the world it seems.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Build <strong>with<\/strong> us.
