So to answer the question I will get asked, I need a volume of muck that I need shifting.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>So, camera at hand I took some photos of the heap.&#160; As I don\u2019t have my quad copter now I also raised my camera above my head and photos at two elevations which was high enough to get above the heap.<\/p>\n<p>Posting the images to Photo on ReCap 360, I registered a known length of the wooden pole I included in the scene.<\/p>\n<p>This scales the data.<\/p>\n<p>So with results looking good, I exported an .RCS file.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fromthegroundup.typepad.com\/.a\/6a01127918d1ef28a401a3fce41888970b-pi\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" border=\"0\" height=\"232\" src=\"http:\/\/fromthegroundup.typepad.com\/.a\/6a01127918d1ef28a401a3fce4188f970b-pi\" style=\"padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-top: 0px;border: 0px\" title=\"image\" width=\"484\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bringing that file into AutoCAD Civil 3D (2014), I make a surface from the point cloud.<\/p>\n<p>I have no noise in this example and ReCap 360 removed the horse walking around me being nosey.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fromthegroundup.typepad.com\/.a\/6a01127918d1ef28a401a73d9ee1b7970d-pi\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" border=\"0\" height=\"264\" src=\"http:\/\/fromthegroundup.typepad.com\/.a\/6a01127918d1ef28a401a51193d620970c-pi\" style=\"padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-top: 0px;border: 0px\" title=\"image\" width=\"484\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next I draw a reference polyline around the heap at a set elevation and make a surface.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fromthegroundup.typepad.com\/.a\/6a01127918d1ef28a401a73d9ee1c5970d-pi\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" border=\"0\" height=\"264\" src=\"http:\/\/fromthegroundup.typepad.com\/.a\/6a01127918d1ef28a401a51193d626970c-pi\" style=\"padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-top: 0px;border: 0px\" title=\"image\" width=\"484\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Looking at the long section, I can see where I want to dig out the heap to.<\/p>\n<p>Yes I could use grading, but its a pile of muck, I don\u2019t need grading slopes <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Smile\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile\" src=\"http:\/\/fromthegroundup.typepad.com\/.a\/6a01127918d1ef28a401a73d9ee197970d-pi\" style=\"border-style: none\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fromthegroundup.typepad.com\/.a\/6a01127918d1ef28a401a73d9ee1cd970d-pi\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" border=\"0\" height=\"264\" src=\"http:\/\/fromthegroundup.typepad.com\/.a\/6a01127918d1ef28a401a51193d62f970c-pi\" style=\"padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-top: 0px;border: 0px\" title=\"image\" width=\"484\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From the Volume dashboard, make a TIN Volume surface and there we go my results are clear.<\/p>\n<p>I have a lot of muck to clear<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fromthegroundup.typepad.com\/.a\/6a01127918d1ef28a401a73d9ee1d3970d-pi\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"image\" border=\"0\" height=\"264\" src=\"http:\/\/fromthegroundup.typepad.com\/.a\/6a01127918d1ef28a401a73d9ee1d7970d-pi\" style=\"padding-left: 0px;padding-right: 0px;padding-top: 0px;border: 0px\" title=\"image\" width=\"484\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On a serious note, apply this concept to larger mounds of spoil heaps and other materials that are collected on site or for removal and you have a simple survey\/scanner from using a
