Day 2 at Autodesk University brought a momentous announcement for the AEC industry, a raucous crowd at the AU Design Slam, more to share on the informative and inspiring exhibits, and fun at the AU Block Party.
Let’s start with industry news. What better time than National GIS Day for Autodesk and Esri to announce a strategic alliance committing to product interoperability to share BIM and GIS data. Our customers have been asking for this capability for years. With the signing of this historic agreement our customers will soon be able to move data seamlessly across the lifecycle of an asset, solving the long-time challenge of data handover between planning, design, build, and operation of assets.
Jack Dangermond, Esri’s President and Andrew Anagnost, President and CEO of Autodesk, sign this sea-change agreement at Autodesk University while preparing for their Day 2 mainstage announcement.
The opening message at AU was that we must build more, better and with less impact to the environment and strained budgets. On Day 2, at the AEC Technology Keynote, Amy Bunszel, Autodesk SVP of Design and Creation Products, expand on this theme by presenting the importance of placing data at the center of infrastructure projects.

Andrew and jack then take a few minutes to explain why this is important to our customers and aligned with their respective corporate visions…
…then celebrated with the AU crowd as friends commited to making the relationship a success.
Design Slam
Eric Chappell, moderator, introduces one of the contestants in the InfraWorks design slam, Chris Dubois.
The InfraWorks Design Slam was full of suspense and excitement. Chris Dubois, Dan Iliyn, and Matt Wunch competed for the title of winner. The Slam was three sessions of 5 minutes in length, focusing on different parts of the development of the new Las Vegas Strip on Mars. Chris Dubois added some Stargates, Matt Wunch an atmosphere generator. The winner, Dan Iliyn made a video of a drive through the streets of this new Strip.
