THE BEST OF CIVIL INFRASTRUCTURE AT AU 2020 | YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS

Homepage

Digital transformation is top of mind for many AEC professionals. Autodesk University 2020 reinforced this theme with presentations and classes that informed customers about the power of data, automation, and insights to accelerate innovation, drive better business outcomes, and realize the new possible.

Over 100,000 people registered to attend the first-ever all-virtual Autodesk University. We hope you were among the scores who had the opportunity to take advantage of all the information, learning content, and resources AU 2020 had to offer. If you missed it, don’t worry, this article gives you a round-up of the highlights and provide you with links to the most important content from AU that you can access and view when it’s convenient for you.

“While we’ve needed to physically distance, in many ways we’ve never been closer.”

Autodesk Docs Gets Added to the AEC Collection & Introducing BIM Collaborate and BIM Collaborate Pro

The big news from the AU main stage keynote presentation was the announcement about the addition of Autodesk Docs in the AEC Collection, giving customers access to the Autodesk Construction Cloud through our next-gen common data environment along with unlimited cloud data storage.

And we introduced BIM Collaborate and BIM Collaborate Pro, two distinct cloud collaboration solutions enabling teams to work with one single source of truth to improve project collaboration from design to construction. Read more about this announcement in this article: Your Questions, Answered – Autodesk’s Three New AEC Cloud Offerings for Design. And, do visit the civil infrastructure AU industry destination to watch the Better Project Delivery Workflows on-demand video for an overview of all our project delivery solutions.

The Future with Generative Design

Among the innovations showcased during the main stage and AEC industry keynotes were Autodesk’s developments in design automation and the introduction of Grading Optimization for Civil 3D to deliver generative design capabilities for civil infrastructure. Grading Optimization enables site designers to use automated, iterative processes to determine the most optimal site plan based on their project requirements. With Grading Optimization civil engineers can take advantage of data, automation, and insights to deliver better design solutions in less time.

We also announced the acquisition of Spacemaker a cloud-based solution that helps architects and urban designers leverage the power of BIM right at the planning phase with artificial intelligence (AI). Spacemaker applies a data driven approach to enable more informed early-stage design decisions faster and improve opportunities for sustainability from the start.

Civil Design Enhancements Over the Year

To support the virtual nature of AU this year, the civil infrastructure team prepared a series of on-demand video presentations. In the Civil Design Advancements & Innovations video you get a review of the most important enhancements made to our civil design software this past year. We covered developments in three key areas that help you save time, reduce costs, and minimize risks.

Design Efficiencies – To help you work more efficiently, we present enhancements to our core software tools. We share how you can use ReCap Pro to capture more accurate and detailed existing conditions and facilitate operational efficiencies, risk reduction, and helps improve sustainability. We talk about greater efficiencies in corridor modeling using InfraWorks and Civil 3D, together. And we highlight how Project Explorer for Civil 3D makes it easier for you to navigate, review, and report on your civil design model.

Integrated Workflows – In many infrastructure projects, multidisciplinary coordination is critical. Our on-demand presentation shows how Civil 3D, Revit, and InfraWorks can work together to transform rail design, helping designers and engineers better coordinate the various vertical and horizontal components of the project. Using these tools, we also present how team members in a bridge design project can better coordinate work as they progresses from setting out the road geometry, initial bridge layout, structural analysis and design, rebar detailing, through final plan production.

Design Automation – Dynamo for Civil 3D has already been invaluable to many of you, helping you automate tedious and repetitive tasks, giving you time to focus on more important design challenges so you can better meet your clients’ requirements. But our big news in this on-demand session is the announcement of Grading Optimization for Civil 3D. In that segment, Autodesk Product Owner, Charlie Ogden, goes deeper into this future innovation that moves workflows from design automation toward generative design.
