InfraWorks 360 continues to grow as an engineering design tool, delivering capabilities that allow you to work like an engineer.

September 2016 seems like a long time ago now!  At that time, we introduced capabilities in InfraWorks 360 to enhance accuracy and precision, tools for more serious road design like component roads and superelevation, and other features like reality capture and component-based bridge design, that took civil engineering professionals closer to working with this tool, as engineers.

This month, with the latest release of InfraWorks 360, we continue to add engineering-grade features and solidify our commitment to establish this tool as the BIM platform for engineering design authoring of civil infrastructure projects.  In this release, you’ll find support for more advanced detail design processes, improved design decisions with more intelligent models, and advanced tools in the areas of bridge design and the processing of point clouds.

Satisfy More Design & Analysis Requirements

Roadside Grading.  InfraWorks 360 now gives you more design flexibility with the ability to vary the slopes and the materials applied to different sections of your roadside grading.  With InfraWorks 360 you can easily split roadside grading into multiple sections, define the start and end stations for each section, and apply different materials or slopes to each section of the grading.  Then you can add transitions when two adjacent grading sections have different slopes.

Flood Simulation.  InfraWorks 360 allows you to simulate, visualize, and analyze 2D flood of inland and coastal flooding projects.  With the ability to support multiple inflow locations and simulation models based on water elevation changes over time, the latest release of InfraWorks 360 now enables you to handle more types of projects and input data when performing flood simulations.

Annotations.  Would it be helpful to know key stations, elevations, and dimensions in real-time as you design?  InfraWorks 360 displays in-canvas annotation values for road geometry at different horizontal and vertical points, dimensions of road component parts, roadside grading area lengths as well as lengths of road transitions.  You can also view the area of easements, parcels, and rights of way.

Quantities.  Calculating quantities in InfraWorks 360 is now more powerful and flexible.  You can view cut and fill quantities for bridges, intersections and roundabouts in your model.  In addition, you can also select a partial road, limiting your view of quantities to a certain station range within a road.

2D Distance and Slope.  Now you can also more easily measure the distance – horizontal, vertical distance, and slope – between two points of interest.

Tools to Enhance Productivity

Edit Mode by View.  By default, Edit mode is enabled in the Conceptual and Engineering views in InfraWorks 360.  Now you can automatically set Edit mode to match how you want to work, allowing you to control whether you see the editing gizmos associated with editing objects in your model when you are in Conceptual of Engineering view. 

Bridge Enhancements.  How can you enhance your bridge design process?  InfraWorks 360 provides a way to more easily copy bridge design configurations from one component to another, and even one bridge to another.  Apply girder, pier, or foundation modifications to other components you select; and, you can save bridge assemblies as templates that you can re-use for other bridges in your models.

Bridge design enhancements.

Adaptive Trees.  Have you ever wanted to place a large number of trees in the model but didn’t want to impact performance?  Increase level of detail for tree styles in InfraWorks 360 enables the geometry to automatically adapt to the camera distance, changing the trees’ level of detail as you zoom in and out, improving model visualization and performance.
