Featuring Leica, Faro and Pointfuse
It’s been a few months since we announced the launch of our Reality Solutions SDK, which made our point cloud format available to partners so they can develop innovative solutions for our customers.
The release of the Reality Solutions SDK was met with a lot of excitement, and several partners have already built out custom solutions that work with construction and design workflows. We want to shine the spotlight on our partners who developed hardware and software solutions that streamline processes for scan to BIM. Several Autodesk partners recently shared what they’ve built using the SDK at Autodesk University in Las Vegas, so read on to learn more about our valued partners and what they’re working on.
Faro
With over a decade of experience offering the construction industry technology for 3D measurement and laser scanning services, FARO is invested in providing their customers with traceable information on construction sites throughout the entire lifecycle. FARO enables its users to capture accurate building, roadside, and aerial data with the FARO Focus, a stationary scanner and partnerships they’ve established with organizations like Stormbee.
In collaboration with Autodesk, they have used ReCap’s point cloud engine to build As-Built for AutoCAD and Revit,a solution that provides users with a suite of advanced tools to create CAD models and intelligent building models from point clouds.
As-Built for AutoCAD lets users:
- Extract and export data points to AutoCAD
- Use Tools for architecture, engineering, infrastructure, and surveying & facility management
- Fit geometric objects into the point cloud
- Create Intelligent Structural models
As-Built for Revit lets users:
- Extract and export data points to Revit
- Use point clouds in the Revit family editor
- Create Structural and Piping models
- Fit walls and other objects using wall-fitting and alignment tools
Pointfuse
UK-based Pointfuse solutions automatically convert reality data into intelligent mesh models. Their aim is to reduce time required to convert data formats and eliminate data duplication, fostering collaboration within teams. Using the Pointfuse Bolt Cloud Service, customers can convert structured and unstructured point clouds into mesh models. The service also enables users to isolate and manage which data sets need to be shared. The ability to discard unimportant data points and reduces the size of the files that are shared around.
Pointfuse Bolt Cloud Service features include:
- Ability to convert point clouds captured from any device to mesh?
- Efficient point-cloud processing regardless of size
- Segmentation of mesh model & object classification by trade and location
- Data isolation for efficiency and file reduction
- Direct upload to Autodesk BIM 360 for collaboration
Leica
Based in Switzerland, Leica Geosystems (part of Hexagon) creates products and systems for surveying and geographical measurement. Autodesk ReCap and Leica have an ongoing partnership around using the Leica BLK360, a small imaging laser scanner which allows users to collect real-time reality capture data. Autodesk and Leica Geosystems have an ongoing partnership to provide solutions for digital reality professionals and have come up with some workflows using the Reality Capture SDK.
- In the Q1 2019 release of Cyclone REGISTER and Cyclone REGISTER 360, users of Cyclone can import RCP projects (for additional survey workflows, QA/QC or registration augmentation) and then export any data in Cyclone directly into the RCP Format, using one software.
- CloudWorx plugins for AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks provides users with collaborative workflows, productivity tools and automated feature extraction tools to help create 2D and 3D deliverables within Autodesk design package, working across RCP or JetStream powered formats
- Autodesk ReCap and Leica have partnered to provide a software option for Leica Geosystems’ imaging laser scanner, the BLK360, to complement the robust, survey-grade software solutions from Leica Geosystems, Cyclone and Cyclone REGISTER 360.
This is just the beginning, we’re working on a few more updates to our SDK, and we can’t wait to see what our partners come up with! Stay tuned for more updates.
