Check out our picks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Let\u2019s make this work.\u00a0<\/strong>Humans and\u00a0our automated creations\u00a0are certainly in a long-term relationship<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and, as any therapist will tell you, good relationships take work.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2018\/5\/8\/17332070\/google-assistant-makes-phone-call-demo-duplex-io-2018\">The Verge reports<\/a> on\u00a0Google\u2019s efforts to improve AI\u2019s communication skills with Duplex, which mimics human pauses and \u201cumms\u201d in uncanny ways, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2018\/5\/9\/17335710\/google-duplex-phone-call-ai-assistant-service-industry\">also discusses\u00a0<\/a>the ethical issues that Duplex raises.\u00a0WIRED\u00a0surveys the efforts of diverse research teams to help humans and robots\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/how-to-interact-with-robots\/?mbid=synd_digg\">get along\u00a0better<\/a>\u00a0(note: both parties have to be willing to change).
