{"id":488,"date":"2014-06-20T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-20T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.autodesk.com\/inthefold\/2014\/06\/20\/autodesk-aces-buildingsmart-bim-interoperability-challenge\/"},"modified":"2014-06-20T09:00:00","modified_gmt":"2014-06-20T09:00:00","slug":"autodesk-aces-buildingsmart-bim-interoperability-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.autodesk.com\/inthefold\/autodesk-aces-buildingsmart-bim-interoperability-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Autodesk aces buildingSMART BIM interoperability challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Autodesk COBie Toolkit for Revit 2015 now available<\/p>\n<p>Autodesk has released its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/content\/dam\/autodesk\/www\/campaigns\/interoperability\/COBieExtensionSetup2015_v1.0.zip\">COBie Toolkit for Revit 2015<\/a>, which gives designers the top-rated data BIM interoperability software.&#160; This release follows a stellar performance at the January 2014 buildingSMART alliance (bsa) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nibs.org\/?page=bsa_chall14\">COBie for Design challenge<\/a>, where Autodesk received 100% positive marks producing a complete COBie deliverable that required no additional processing or edits.<\/p>\n<p>Building Information Modeling (BIM) has matured into a powerful process for architects, engineers and contractors to share and implement intelligent building design data.&#160; Data exchange standards help project teams move models and information from one 3D modeling software application to another, facilitating more efficient, collaborative workflows.&#160;<\/p>\n<p>For that reason, Autodesk provides support for many other data exchange mechanisms and file translations to assist project teams, such as COBie. COBie is a tool that allows non-graphical data and information about buildings to be organized, documented and shared in a standardized way. This data can be maintained in a database which can be easily accessed and updated throughout the whole life cycle of a building, from concept through to demolition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"http:\/\/inthefold.autodesk.com\/.a\/6a017c3334c51a970b01a3fd20ee6c970b-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"1\" border=\"0\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a017c3334c51a970b01a3fd20ee6c970b image-full img-responsive\" src=\"http:\/\/inthefold.autodesk.com\/.a\/6a017c3334c51a970b01a3fd20ee6c970b-800wi\" title=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The intent of the COBie Challenge, held during the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nibs.org\/?page=conference2014\">Building Innovation 2014 Conference &amp; Expo<\/a>, is to allow software companies to demonstrate their ability to meet information exchange standards developed by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nibs.org\/?page=bsa\">buildingSMART alliance<\/a>.&#160; As expressed by the buildingSMART alliance, finishing with no errors or penalties as Autodesk did \u201cmeans that a user should not have to spend additional time editing the COBie file to fill in missing data or correct format errors on a COBie file exported by the vendor&#039;s software.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The output for the 2014 COBie Challenge was generated using the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/content\/dam\/autodesk\/www\/campaigns\/interoperability\/autodesk_revit2014_COBieExtensionSetup_v1.0.exe\">COBie Toolkit<\/a> for Revit 2014 which is available, along with the newly released toolkit for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/autodesk-revit-family\/overview\">Revit 2015<\/a>, &#160;for download on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/campaigns\/interoperability\">Autodesk BIM Interoperability page<\/a>.&#160; &#160;<\/p>\n<p>&#160;The Autodesk Revit COBie Toolkit assists project teams in producing COBie deliverables in conjunction with their Revit model development. Revit COBie Toolkit is an add-in application which installs in Autodesk Revit as well as Revit Architecture, Revit MEP and Revit Structure to support the creation and publishing of Revit data to the COBie standard.
