Each of these noteworthy inventors rose to a challenge to develop the most innovative design and engineering advancements,<br \/>\nwith standout products that met a practical need.<strong>&#160;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And now a New Year is upon us, and that means it\u2019s time to select the<br \/>\n2012 Inventor of the Year!<br \/>\nAutodesk annually encourages members of its Manufacturing community to choose and<br \/>\nhonor one of the 2012 Autodesk Inventor<br \/>\nof the Month winners as Inventor of the Year. Voting<br \/>\nhas kicked off <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surveygizmo.com\/s3\/1144654\/2012-Inventor-of-the-Year\">here<\/a> for this year\u2019s Inventor of the Year competition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/inthefold.typepad.com\/.a\/6a017c3334c51a970b017ee822e704970d-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Inventor_Campaign_Mechatronics_Robot\" src=\"http:\/\/inthefold.typepad.com\/.a\/6a017c3334c51a970b017ee822e704970d-320wi\" title=\"Inventor_Campaign_Mechatronics_Robot\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Autodesk<br \/>\nInventor of the Month program identifies the most innovative among hundreds of<br \/>\nthousands of designers and engineers that invent with Autodesk <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/pr-digitalprototyping\">Digital Prototyping<\/a><br \/>\ntools. This year\u2019s recipients employed software including <a href=\"http:\/\/usa.autodesk.com\/autodesk-inventor\/\">Autodesk Inventor<\/a><br \/>\nsoftware as part of <a href=\"http:\/\/usa.autodesk.com\/product-design-suite\/\">Autodesk Product Design Suite<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/usa.autodesk.com\/manufacturing\/\">Autodesk Factory Design Suite<\/a>, the Autodesk Simulation family of products<br \/>\nand <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autodeskplm360.com\/\">Autodesk PLM 360<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Community members<br \/>\nwill select the next Inventor of the Year by voting for the best of the monthly<br \/>\naward winners from 2012, and the company with the highest rating will receive the<br \/>\nInventor of the Year honor. Voting is under way and closes March 1 at 5 p.m. Pacific<br \/>\ntime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Contenders: 2012 Inventor of the <\/strong><strong>Month<br \/>\nWinners<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>January 2012: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.autodesk.com\/news\/autodesk\/20120131005709\/en\/Autodesk-Software-Helps-Company-Create-Distinctive-Transit\">Tolar Manufacturing<\/a>, a manufacturer of transit shelters, street<br \/>\nfurniture and advertising kiosks, used Autodesk Product Design Suite to create<br \/>\ncustom products tailored to the needs of municipalities throughout North<br \/>\nAmerica. Tolar offers more than 500 shelter types within the company\u2019s<br \/>\nfour main product lines, each designed and engineered to be long-lasting,<br \/>\nattractive and environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>February<br \/>\n2012: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.autodesk.com\/news\/autodesk\/20120228006471\/en\/Zealand-Company-Speeds-Architectural-Projects-Autodesk-Software\">4<sup>th<\/sup><br \/>\nDimensional Fa\u00e7ade Solutions<\/a>, a New<br \/>\nZealand-based design and build company, employed Autodesk Inventor software<br \/>\nto create stunning facades for projects with unique physical and environmental challenges,<br \/>\nas well as highly complex design and build procedures. The company\u2019s work includes a caf\u00e9 that sits on the edge of a 6,000 feet<br \/>\nhigh mountain and a stunning vacation home called Jagged Edge, where each<br \/>\nfacade on the structure is rhombus-shaped and contains no 90-degree angles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>March<br \/>\n2012:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/news.autodesk.com\/news\/autodesk\/20120329005400\/en\/Sunkist-Builds-Fruit-Packing-Machine-Autodesk-Software\">Sunkist Research and Technical Services<\/a>, a division of international fruit supplier<br \/>\nSunkist, worked with Autodesk<br \/>\nProduct Design Suite to develop a flat fruit-packing machine that<br \/>\ndoubles hourly throughput. Typical flat fruit packing machines pack a single<br \/>\nlayer of fruit into a box during each cycle, while Sunkist\u2019s packing machine<br \/>\ncan feed a layer of fruit into <em>two<\/em><br \/>\nboxes at once. Instead of processing 200 boxes of fruit per hour, the machine<br \/>\ncan potentially process 400 boxes per hour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>April 2012: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.autodesk.com\/news\/autodesk\/20120430005560\/en\/Autodesk-Software-Helps-Clean-Tech-Company-Fuel\">HydroSpin<\/a>, an Israel- based clean technology company, used Autodesk Inventor<br \/>\nsoftware and other Autodesk Digital Prototyping tools to develop a micro-generator<br \/>\nsolution that produces energy from the flow of water inside distribution pipes,<br \/>\nsaving hundreds of hours of development time and hundreds of thousands of<br \/>\ndevelopment dollars. The generators power a wide range of \u201csmart water\u201d devices<br \/>\nthat monitor the movement and quality of water, along with other<br \/>\nparameters, throughout the distribution network.<\/p>\n<p><strong>May<br \/>\n2012: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.autodesk.com\/news\/autodesk\/20120529005384\/en\/Autodesk-Factory-Design-Suite-Helps-Global-Manufacturer\">Feige Filling<\/a>, a German company, leveraged Autodesk<br \/>\nFactory Design Suite software to not only design its innovative filling<br \/>\nmachines, but also the layout of its factories that house them. Feige used Autodesk Inventor together with the<br \/>\ncomplete Factory Design Suite to create equipment for its customers and then<br \/>\noptimize the factory layout before any equipment is installed. As a result,<br \/>\nFeige now serves as a \u201cturnkey\u201d solution provider to its customers, giving the<br \/>\ncompany a powerful advantage in the marketplace.<\/p>\n<p><strong>June 2012: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.autodesk.com\/news\/autodesk\/20120626005371\/en\/Autodesk-Helps-Huntair-Turn-Operating-Rooms-Cleanrooms\">Huntair<\/a>, a leading designer and manufacturer of specialized heating,<br \/>\nventilating and air conditioning systems, applied Autodesk Simulation CFD<br \/>\nand Autodesk Inventor software to develop the revolutionary CLEANSUITE airflow<br \/>\ndelivery system. With healthcare-acquired infections claiming 99,000 U.S. lives<br \/>\nannually and costing the healthcare system billions of dollars, the CLEANSUITE<br \/>\nsystem helps avoid contamination of operating room patients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>July<br \/>\n2012: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.autodesk.com\/news\/autodesk\/20120731005074\/en\/Autodesk-Software-Analyzers-Industries-Minimize-Emissions\">California Analytical Instruments<\/a> developed gas analyzers and custom<br \/>\nsystems using Autodesk Inventor software<br \/>\nas part of Autodesk Product Design Suite to help companies monitor and measure<br \/>\nthe emission of greenhouse gases from a wide variety of pollutant sources, including<br \/>\nsmokestacks, power plants, refineries and machines powered by internal<br \/>\ncombustion engines. CAI has more than 1,700 customers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>August 2012: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.autodesk.com\/news\/autodesk\/20120830005268\/en\/Autodesk-Product-Design-Suite-Helps-Develop-Custom\">Ellis<br \/>\nFurniture<\/a>, a U.K.-based furniture<br \/>\ncompany in business for more than a century, used <a href=\"http:\/\/usa.autodesk.com\/product-design-suite\/\">Autodesk Product Design<br \/>\nSuite<\/a> to offer greater levels of product customization in significantly<br \/>\nless time. For example, Ellis\u2019 manufacturing process takes 80 percent less<br \/>\ntime. This speed enables Ellis to rapidly explore a number of design options<br \/>\nfor its customers \u2014 ranging from luxury hotels to government institutions \u2014 and<br \/>\ncreate high-quality furniture that not only fits their precise needs, but is<br \/>\ndesigned to last a lifetime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 2012: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.autodesk.com\/news\/autodesk\/20120927005179\/en\/Autodesk-Product-Design-Suite-Helps-Position-Turkish\">BMC<\/a>, a Turkish automotive industry leader, utilizes Autodesk Product<br \/>\nDesign Suite to improve design and production processes at its main plant in<br \/>\nIzmir, Turkey. Increased productivity allowed the company to more efficiently<br \/>\nproduce a wide range of vehicles \u2014 from<br \/>\nlight and heavy trucks, to buses and military vehicles \u2014 which are supplied to international and local markets, helping<br \/>\nBMC move toward becoming a global brand.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>October<br \/>\n2012: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/news.autodesk.com\/news\/autodesk\/20121031005444\/en\/Rapidly-Growing-Boat-Dock-Company-Turns-Autodesk\">MariCorp<\/a>, a nationwide leader in the boat dock industry, was recognized for<br \/>\nusing Autodesk PLM 360 to streamline project management and Autodesk Product<br \/>\nDesign Suite to improve their designs. As a result of implementing Autodesk<br \/>\nsoftware, the fast-growing company has been able to respond to bids more<br \/>\nquickly, execute designs more effectively and efficiently scale its<br \/>\norganization \u2014 helping reduce work tenfold.<\/p>\n<p><strong>November<br \/>\n2012: <\/strong>Autodesk chose the industrial<br \/>\ndesign students enrolled in the Automotive Design course at <a href=\"http:\/\/inthefold.typepad.com\/in_the_fold\/2012\/11\/autodesk-software-helps-mexico-students-design-award-winning-green-concept-car.html\">Instituto Tecnol\u00f3gico de Monterrey<\/a> in Mexico City for using Autodesk Product<br \/>\nDesign Suite with other Autodesk software tools to develop the Aurora concept<br \/>\ncar. Rather than relying on a fuel-hungry central combustion engine, the Aurora<br \/>\nproject uses hybrid propelling technologies to power the car.<\/p>\n<p><strong>December<br \/>\n2012:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/inthefold.typepad.com\/in_the_fold\/2012\/12\/autodesk-software-helps-uvp-build-products-to-battle-disease.html\">UVP<\/a>,<br \/>\na global leader in life science<br \/>\nimaging, designed and manufactured with Autodesk Product Design Suite scientific imaging equipment that is<br \/>\nused to identify potential cures for major diseases.
