Boundary Patch – A jack of all trades

Tutorials

This is one of my all time favorite go-to fixer uppers when modeling, Boundary Patch.  Strictly speaking it’s a surface modeling aid, but it’s versatile application in solid modeling to help get an awkward job done are definitely much appreciated and welcome.

Whether it be one of those regular occurrences when you have an awkwardly shaped and positioned face to create but you just can’t quite figure out how to get the sketch down, or like this tutorial demonstrates, you need to create a new part formed over an existing opening/hole in your design.  Once you have Boundary Patch figured out and in your arsenal it’s a formidable tool to call upon.

If you’ve yet to embrace the world of surfacing to assist with solid modeling, Boundary Patch combined in a workflow with Thicken to generate new geometry in almost any situation is a wise place to start!
