Fortunately, it\u2019s always the right time to prepare students for the next-generation workflows and technologies of the future of design and manufacturing. Since then, Sunset has integrated the software to pair with its CNC machines, laser cutters, and 3D printers to teach multiple CAD\/CAM and CAE concepts from a single, easy-to-use platform, rather than needing multiple programs. &#8220;One of the things that I really enjoy about Fusion 360 is that it is a very short on-ramp, and we really get to move through a lot of physical projects quickly&#8221; says Cady Greer, CTE instructor at Sunset High School.<\/p>\n\n\n<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-wistia-inc wp-block-embed-wistia-inc\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Sunset High School Video\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/embed\/iframe\/ouabbdqd1b?dnt=1\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" class=\"wistia_embed\" name=\"wistia_embed\" msallowfullscreen width=\"500\" height=\"281\" style=\"aspect-ratio:500 \/ 281;width:100%;height:auto;\"><\/iframe><script src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/assets\/external\/E-v1.js\" async><\/script>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Since adding Fusion 360 to its CTE program, Sunset High School students have gained design and manufacturing skills that employers need while also supplying the school system with a critical HVAC part.<br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Greer also explains how Fusion 360 helped the school in a less expected way. The HVAC system of the Beaverton School District had a problem with a bushing part that was difficult to replace, so Greer and her students used Fusion 360 to model and 3D print the part themselves. The part now has been used in several of schools, and she estimates it will save the district $5 million over the next few years.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So why is Fusion 360 having this level of impact in Schools, Colleges, and Universities? That\u2019s easy: Fusion 360 has a simple, intuitive design that allows students to work with its various features and tools easily, so they can engage quickly with course content. When they need additional support, in-software tool tips are there to guide them in using features and workflows. They can work from any computer\u2014either with Mac or PC software or through a web browser\u2014and the cloud-connected data is accessible from anywhere. Fusion 360 utilizes a top-down design approach that today\u2019s students love, letting them create assembly components in the space they\u2019re supposed to fit.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can work together seamlessly with collaboration features and version control that makes it easy to roll back to previous versions. As continued convergence in industry makes projects more complex, students learning on Fusion 360\u2019s collaboration-first foundation will be comfortable sharing models and data in the same manner in which they\u2019ll work in the professional world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Features like Fusion 360\u2019s timeline help educators see how students approach projects conceptually, bringing a visual, step-by-step workflow to teaching. It also gives students insight into their decisions to see if they\u2019re absorbing new concepts like the software\u2019s Generative Design, advanced simulation tools, and end-to-end design for manufacturing workflows.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All told, Fusion 360 has been built for the way today\u2019s digital-native students approach technology. It\u2019s not only Sunset High School that is benefiting from using Fusion 360 in its program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lawrence Equipment designs and manufactures automated machines for making tortillas, flatbread, and other foods. After the company invited instructors from the nearby Pasadena City College to see how Fusion 360 significantly improved the productivity of its manufacturing, the school added the software to its curriculum. It\u2019s helped them reduce the number of steps in design and manufacturing workflows while preparing students for in-demand industry jobs. &#8220;The number one complaint we had from students was that they need more time on the machines,\u201d says Jacob T.
