Reality Solutions Quickfire Spotlight: Data Management Solutions

January 11, 2019

Featuring Pointerra and Cintoo

The release of the Reality Solutions SDK has brought about innovative new solutions that are aimed at simplifying workflows for you, our customers.  In our last post, we featured partners who were creating scan- to-BIM solutions using the SDK. Now we’re going to shine the light on our partners who created solutions to improve data management workflows.

Pointerra and Cintoo,  presented at the Quickfire Session at Autodesk University in Las Vegas. We’re really excited about what they’ve come up with in the few months since our SDK release.

Pointerra, an Australian based company, is invested in providing a powerful cloud-based solutions for managing, working in, using and sharing massive 3D point clouds. Their product allows users to instantly render dynamic views of 3D data. Collaborators can then access the data from their browsers, share it securely, and export portions of data in Autodesk’s RCP format  seamlessly.  Pointerra’s platform lets users add geo-references and coordinates to their data to help in overlaying the data with other geolocated model data. Additionally, Pointerra provides tools for measuring and cropping data. The ReCap SDK allows users to share these enriched datasets to other Autodesk tools like AutoCAD, Revit, Civil3D, Navisworks and Infraworks.

A fresh face amongst Autodesk University attendees, Cintoo’s mission revolves around allowing the construction industry to be more efficient by collaboratively leveraging data from Reality Capture devices as part of the BIM process. Cintoo seeks to solve “The Cloud Bottleneck” problem with solutions Cintoo Connect and Cintoo Cloud. To get around the unwieldiness of giant data sets generated by reality capture devices, Cintoo Connect and Cintoo Cloud allow customers to turn point clouds into surface meshes (30x smaller in file size) and upload the projects into the Cloud for easy access and collaboration.  These projects can then be downloaded where they’re turned back into a point cloud, skipping the step of sending the huge point cloud files..

Need to convert the file back to a point cloud? No problem! The demo also showcases the power of utilizing the Surface Display Setting, giving customers a different view not normally seen in the scans. As part of this workflow, Cintoo allows users to connect the data to BIM tools like AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.

We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any new updates the Reality Solutions team and our partners have. If you’d like to learn more about our partners, you can find additional information at our AEC partners page.
