Convert MEP design intent models to MEP fabrication detail models in BIM

The Architecture, Engineering & Construction Collection now includes Revit and Fabrication CADmep, enabling mechanical and plumbing contractors to connect detailing and fabrication to BIM. Use a single fabrication database and a variety of tools to detail, coordinate, and prepare BIM detail models for pricing, MEP fabrication and installation.

Working in Revit for MEP, you can convert your design-intent model into a detailed MEP fabrication model that’s ready for shop drawing, procurement, ductwork manufacture, and installation. With direct links to Fabrication ESTmep and Fabrication CAMduct from your BIM model, you can manage MEP material and labor more easily and drive model-based costing and fabrication downstream for better coordination and collaboration.

If you are provided with a MEP design model created in Revit, rather than throw it away and start over, you can save time and reduce rework by using the BIM model for your fabrication detailed model.  You can convert individual design elements to fabrication parts or convert a run or entire network. Once converted, you can use the fabrication tools to modify and fill in any gaps.

To detail the fabrication model further, you can add hangers to the services. Hangers attach to the closest structural element including floors, roofs, structural framing, beam or truss, stairs, and slabs.  Revit gives you the ability to create trapeze hangers and extend the bearer if needed. You can drive the hanger rod size by the ancillary kit.

Once you’re ready, you can export the Revit detail model as a .MAJ file to Fabrication ESTmep and Fabrication CAMduct directly from your BIM model. Using labor and material cost data in the Fabrication ESTmep database, you can get a detailed cost breakdown of the elements modeled in Revit.

The increased productivity gained from using BIM-based workflows enables trade contractors to maximize their margins, increase collaboration capabilities with other project stakeholders, and engage on projects earlier.

Take a look at how you can reduce errors and rework and save valuable time when converting MEP design models to LOD400 detail models for fabrication, estimation and installation.
