Behind every great piece of art or expression of creativity is a creator who has invested countless hours mulling over various creative directions, sketching and iterating, and finalizing their piece. Nimit Malavia, an award-winning Illustrator, provides a glimpse into his illustration process as he works on a piece depicting a futuristic soccer club on Mars.
In this video, Nimit takes us through both the conceptual and technical components of his illustration process for a piece that depicts a Martian world of soccer and competition. Throughout the video, Nimit provides insight into how he considers the context of playing soccer in space—how his piece will convey action, the dynamics of movement in this thin atmosphere, and the mechanics of play. He also details his process from creating rough thumbnails to his final inks, while at each stage sharing his thinking, strategic decision making, and general tips on what makes a successful and compelling image.
