I’ve found that collaboration within a company is paramount to success, but every company struggles to make it work. First and foremost, having the right people employed with a willingness to work together is crucial. The first real challenge is a human one. Leadership is also a human component equally important for the company to move in the right direction.
Technology is last on this list, but it can make or break the collaboration experience. When it comes to engineering data, I’ve found that it is crucial for everyone to work in a centralized repository, especially when working in different time zones and languages. Then, when it comes to all the project related files, it is important that everyone has appropriate access, and the tools are simple and widely adopted. Next, the goal is to streamline the workflow and the hand-off between groups. Rework is the real productivity killer and should be avoided.
