Beginning September 14, 2020, Autodesk is adding PowerMill, PowerShape, and PowerInspect to the Fusion 360 family of solutions. Srinath Jonnalagadda, VP, Business Strategy & Marketing – Design and Manufacturing, will be speaking about this today during Autodesk’s virtual Advanced Manufacturing Summit, and we’ve shared an overview of the reasons for this evolution on ADSK News.
The three main reasons we’re bringing these advanced manufacturing capabilities together in Fusion 360 are: to offer a more seamless product development experience, to ensure you can easily transition from design to simulation to manufacturing with our next-generation cloud platform, and to give you better value with access to more technology.
We’re sure you must have questions about how you will be affected or what will be included in your subscription if you’re a new user, so let’s break down exactly how this will work.
What to expect.
Come September 14, if you are an existing PowerMill, PowerShape, and/or PowerInspect subscriber, your account will update to one of four new offerings specifically geared toward your needs. The four new subscriptions include Fusion 360 with PowerMill Standard, Fusion 360 with PowerMill Ultimate, Fusion 360 with PowerShape, and Fusion 360 with PowerInspect.
Celebrating 25 years of PowerMill: the best of both worlds.
Don’t worry—the PowerMill, PowerShape, and PowerInspect capabilities you know and love aren’t going anywhere. You’ll continue to have access to the same or better version of the software you rely on today. In addition, you’ll have access to Fusion 360 and Fusion 360 Team. It doesn’t end there! Starting October 2020, many PowerMill and PowerInspect users will also receive access to some exciting new Fusion 360 extensions. So, if you’re curious to learn about what working on Fusion 360’s cloud-based platform is like, you will easily be able to do so—and even make the transition if you’d like—within a single subscription. We’re not forcing you to change the way you work, but instead offering you the opportunity to test out new ways of integrating your design and manufacturing processes.
Will I have to pay more for my upgraded plan?
In many instances, the new range of offerings will be available at a lower price. For example, If you’re currently a PowerMill Premium user, you will upgrade to the new “Fusion 360 with PowerMill Ultimate” package at no additional cost. This includes the very best technology PowerMill has to offer and (starting October 2020) even more advanced manufacturing capabilities, provided via two new Fusion 360 extensions, called “Fusion 360 – Machining Extension” and “Fusion 360 – Additive Build Extension (see chart below).
If you are a PowerInspect Ultimate user, your cost will be reduced to the previous price point for PowerInspect Premium with the new Fusion 360 with PowerInspect subscription. And if you’re currently a PowerShape Premium user, you will be able to access PowerShape Ultimate functionality at no additional cost through Fusion 360 with PowerShape.
Fusion 360: A cloud platform of the future.
With Fusion 360, all of your data lives in the cloud, meaning you have more flexible and connected access to your data and projects—anytime, anywhere. Collaboration between remote teams and clients becomes more natural, thus accelerating the process of envisioning, designing, and creating just about anything.
Unlock next-generation workflows.
By adding PowerMill, PowerShape, and PowerInspect to the Fusion 360 family, you will have the opportunity to explore powerful next-generation workflows to help shape your work moving forward. For example, if you’re a current PowerMill user, you will gain access to AnyCAD, which allows you to collaborate and manage CAD data with anyone, regardless of the CAD software tool they use. Additionally, constraint-based sketching, intuitive 3D parametric modeling, and generative design technology will let you create parts, fixtures, and tooling for your PowerMill projects. You’ll also have access to mechanical and thermal simulation in Fusion 360 to verify designs and validate material selections prior to manufacturing, reducing the cost of prototyping.
If you’re a PowerShape user, you will be able to execute simulation studies of PowerShape models in Fusion 360, including static and nonlinear static stress, bucking modes, and more. And if you’re a PowerInspect user, Fusion 360 will offer you strong CAD support, from collision checking and avoidance to producing quality reports for final project approval.
Wherever you are in your journey to the future of design and manufacturing, we aim to provide you with the leading tools to be successful. Learn more about the exciting evolution of PowerMill, PowerShape, and PowerInspect here.
