This week’s BIM 360 Model Coordination update delivers the ability to create multiple coordination spaces.
Coordination spaces provide a view of coordination models stored within Document Management, providing a place for multi-disciplinary teams to review their models in aggregate and act upon automatically-detected clashes between them.
The introduction of multiple coordination spaces enables the definition of ‘private’ spaces for individual teams, in addition to a ‘shared’ space typically managed by the GC or main contractor. Private spaces are intended to encourage contributing design and trade teams to experiment with options and develop their work in progress (WIP) models, whilst clash checking them against models shared by other teams. This process should provide an opportunity to increase the quality of models being shared, which in turn focuses the ‘shared’ coordination activity on genuine coordination issues requiring collaborative review.
