2D to 3D using DWG underlay

Inventor Official Blog

Most of you reading this article already know the benefits of designing in 3D.  With the 3D model you can quickly create accurate manufacturing drawings, check for interferences in assemblies, run simulations, create toolpaths for CNC, additive manufacturing, and more!  The list goes on.

You may have AutoCAD drawings of designs that are not yet modeled in 3D.  Can you leverage those drawings to speed up the modeling process?  Of course, the answer is, “Yes!”  This has been the case for decades.  And you might remember that something happened in the year 2016.  AnyCAD was introduced as a game changer for interoperability between Inventor and many other Autodesk and non-Autodesk products.

What interoperability improvements were made between AutoCAD and Inventor in regard to AnyCAD?  When you import a DWG into Inventor, there is an intuitive workflow that speeds up the 3D modeling process.  Best of all, the newly created Inventor model remains associated to the AutoCAD file in case any changes are made.
