The Job Processor is fast becoming one of the biggest business impact-er's for Vault customers so its no surprise one of our more popular updates to the 2014 product based on customer feedback is the changes made to Job Processor performance and robustness.
How did we do it? The first thing we did is reduce the CAD application churn, where previously the Job Processor would open and close the applicable CAD tool for every job we now execute a number of jobs on these applications before a restart.
Depending on the job type (visualization creation or property sync) we process a specified number, meaning that it is quicker to execute each job and improves overall stability while still ensuring we manage the memory usage.
Job Processor will now also shut down if a Job fails to complete in a given time and restart the Job executor automatically, meaning fewer server failures. When combined with the improved additional logging, this makes it easier for administrators to monitor and manage.
The good news is we also made these controls configurable – for more information on the default job use limits and timeouts as well as where to change them head over to the Wiki Help here.
