Following up on a recent post about Categories and File Naming, I thought it was time to revisit this feature within Autodesk Vault. Several options for file naming are available to Vault customers. Renaming files in the CAD world has traditionally been one of the most difficult operations to manage. Due to the nature of how intertwined the references can be, users need to have an intense amount of knowledge about where a design is used in order to properly rename it. With Autodesk Vault, the rename wizard allows you to rename inventor files or AutoCAD files without breaking any references.
This simple operation automatically identifies what references need to be updated and complete the “clean up” work for the user.
With Vault Workgroup/Collaboration/Professional, users can create new design files and have Autodesk Vault automatically assign file names – without having to leave the design application. Simply define your company numbering standard and users can automatically name their files upon saving the files.
This functionality even integrates with advanced design application functions such as Autodesk Inventor’s frame generator and design accelerators.
