From startup to success: Ruksana’s career journey

I joined Autodesk in March 2023 and have been working as a hybrid employee based in Bengaluru, India. In my current role as Recruiting Manager, I am responsible for leading the team of tech recruiters for the India region. This involves providing guidance and support, as well as fostering a collaborative and productive work environment for the team. My role also includes understanding the hiring needs of the business and taking any necessary steps to address them.

Building and maintaining relationships with hiring managers and the leadership team is essential – I collaborate closely with them to understand their technical hiring needs, provide regular updates on recruitment progress, and ensure alignment between recruitment efforts and business objectives.

Outside of my day-to-day role, I am also involved in supporting diversity events for Autodesk, like a recent Society of Women Engineers (SWE) event, conducting other hiring events, driving initiatives in our candidate onboarding experience, and being part of Bengaluru’s Impact group.

Charting my career course

My career journey has been more of a “career maze.” After completing my education, I joined a small startup consultancy as a recruiter in my hometown of Trichy, located in South India. I was one of just 100 employees in the company, and it provided a humble beginning to my professional journey.

Eager to further my career, I made the leap to Bengaluru, a bustling city known as the Silicon Valley of India. It was my first time in Bengaluru, so it was a very unknown city to me and a different language. I worked as a recruiter at a mid-size consulting company and after a lot of dedication and hard work, I was promoted to the position of Team Lead, overseeing a team of eight talented individuals. It was a fulfilling experience to guide and mentor my team while simultaneously building my own skill set.

After some years of growth and accomplishments, I received an opportunity to work in a multinational service-based company. It was a significant milestone in my career, providing exposure to a global work environment and new challenges to tackle. I then secured a position as a Team Lead in a mid-size product-based company. This transition allowed me to explore a different facet of the industry, working on innovative and cutting-edge projects. As I continued to grow professionally, I joined a world-renowned tech company and embraced the challenge of immersing myself in the dynamic world of talent acquisition at a global scale.

Presently, I find myself at Autodesk where I am responsible for shaping the organization’s tech talent acquisition strategy for India. It is a testament to my journey, highlighting how each step — from humble beginnings to this pivotal role — has prepared me for the challenges and opportunities I face today.

I plan to stay at Autodesk for many more years – I’m looking forward to growing with the company and making a meaningful impact in shaping the future of Autodesk’s Talent Acquisition team.

My life story is a testament to the unpredictable nature of life’s path. From a small startup in my hometown to leading positions in renowned tech companies, my career has taken me on an unexpected yet enriching journey. Through each twist and turn, I have learned the value of resilience, adaptability, and continuous growth. My experiences have shaped me into a seasoned professional, armed with knowledge, skills, and a passion for unlocking human potential. As I forge ahead, I eagerly embrace the unknown, knowing that each new chapter will contribute to my ever-evolving life story.
