Meetups: a CAD manager, a BIM manager, and an engineer walk into a corn hole game…

Your feedback is loud and clear: you want more networking opportunities when you attend AU. Well, we hear you—and this year, you’ll have plenty to choose from.

We’re offering a series of meetups that are just plain fun. Get to know your peers over games, trivia contests, puzzles, and photo scavenger hunts that will test your wits and tease your brain. When it comes to professional networking at AU this year, it’s game on, people.

Giant Jenga – If you spend your days building and making things, it might be cathartic to spend an hour or 2 taking something apart. Giant Jenga is just what it sounds like— the Jenga puzzle game, but 5 feet high. We’ll have one match for architects and civil engineers and another for product managers and designers.

Dominoes – Lay those tiles and stack those chips. We’ll be hosting 2 different tournaments of this classic strategy game, one for architects, MEP, and structural engineers and another for contractors and sub-contractors.

Lawn Bowling – Get those bowls to the head, friends! This sport, popular in the UK and Australia, involves rolling biased (as in slightly lopsided) balls with the goal of getting them closest to the white jack. It’s a lot like bocce ball, but the balls don’t roll straight. Trust us, it’s a hoot. We’ll have one match for architects, MEP and structural engineering folks, and another for CAD managers.

Trivia – Test your knowledge under pressure with a trivia competition focused on topics related to Autodesk, AU, and beyond. We’ll have one competition for engineers and design visualization professionals, another for architects and civil engineers.

Marshmallow Challenge – Have you ever had more fun with a bag of marshmallows and a stack of toothpicks? If so, we don’t want to know the details. Put your engineering skills to the test by creating a stable structure with these components—no 3D modeling allowed in advance. There’s one competition for architects, MEP and structural engineering professionals, one for CAD, BIM and VDC managers, one for civil engineers and surveyors, and another for contractors and sub-contractors.

Brain Teasers –Get those synapses firing with folks from your industry. We’ll have a puzzle event for CAD, BIM and VDC managers, one for architects, MEP, and structural engineering professionals, one for engineers and design visualization folks, and another for people attending the Smart Manufacturing track.

Corn hole – We can’t believe that’s the real name for this game either, but hey, culture is culture. Test your aim with one event for CAD, BIM and VDC managers and another for structural and civil engineers.

Lego Architecture Studio Challenge – Build it and they will come. Alternatively: come and you will build it. Brick it with others from your field as you compete to create the best Lego structure. We’ll have one event for architects and design viz professionals, one for engineers, and another for mechanical engineers and media & entertainment professionals.

Photo Scavenger Hunt – Start with a list of unusual photos you need to take, then go and snap them around AU. We’ll have one competition for CAD managers, one for architects and design visualization professionals, one for product designers and design visualization people, and another for 3D artists. Bring your phone!

Ring Toss – Get it on the peg, people! With one event for architects and civil engineers and another for contractors and sub-contractors, make sure your aim is true.
