Make the Most of Monday: Preconference Events at AU 2017

Stephanie Wells
October 17, 2017

AU officially starts on Tuesday, November 14, but the truth is that by the time people sit down in their first classes on Tuesday morning, the learning has already been in full swing for a day. That’s because a number of preconference events take place on Monday, November 13. Each one is focused on a skill set or industry, giving attendees a chance to share knowledge, build know-how specific to their field, and network with professionals like themselves. Preconference events are an important way to make your AU even more valuable.

What sorts of events are available on Monday? We thought you’d never ask.

Computational BIM Workshop & Forum—Beginner | $300

Ready to get your BIM on? Bring the power of computation and logic to your building designs with this full-day session that will introduce you to Dynamo and the logical principles of visual programming. If you have experience with Revit and want to use computation to add additional capabilities, this workshop is for you. Enjoy shared networking opportunities over breakfast, lunch, and end-of-day drinks. Register now.

Computational BIM Workshop & Forum—Advanced | $300

The full-day Advanced Computational BIM Workshop is for those who are already proficient with Dynamo and want to take their skills to the next level to create customized functions, improve building performance, and get Revit to interoperate with other applications and data sources. Enjoy shared networking opportunities over breakfast, lunch, and end-of-day drinks. Register now.

Connect and Construct Summit | $195

Wear a hard hat to work? Or give orders to people who do? Spend a day learning about the latest trends in construction and how professionals like yourself are using new technologies to improve efficiency and solve problems. After a networking breakfast and a collective morning session with Autodesk leaders, choose from 3 tracks for the afternoon: establishing a technology strategy, getting started with the move to digital, or using BIM 360 to exceed project goals. The adorably named Hard Hat Happy Hour kicks off at 6:00 p.m. Register now.

Transportation Summit | $195

For the bridge and tunnel crowd (also the highway, road, rail, shipping, and airport crowd), this one’s for you. Learn how emerging technologies and new processes enable connected BIM in transportation. See how the most advanced companies are getting the work done and enabling better customer experiences. Plus, enjoy networking opportunities throughout the day. Register now.

MEP & Structural Fabricators Forum | $300

General contractors and subcontractors—we’ve got you covered. Learn how to detail, fabricate, and build better MEP and structural systems and make the most of BIM models. And networking? Yes, plenty of it. Register now.

Forge DevCon | $295 or $95 with an AU Pass

Last, but certainly not least, Forge DevCon is a 2-day conference (Monday and Tuesday, November 13 and 14, overlapping with AU on Tuesday). Forge is Autodesk’s cloud development platform, and Forge DevCon is the place to be if you’re developing custom web or mobile apps for your firm, customizing your Autodesk tools, creating independent cloud-based services (or managing any of the above). Meet professionals like yourself, get questions answered by Autodesk development teams, build your skills, and move your projects forward. If you’re attending AU and have already bought your pass, you can add DevCon for just an additional $95, a screaming good deal. To do so, email autodeskuniversity@autodeskevents.com or call 888-371-1722. Register now.

Hoover Dam Field Trip | $65

Planning to be in Vegas on Monday, but not interested in one of these preconferences? There are plenty of other activities to keep you busy, like a Hoover Dam Field Trip. Onsite at the Hoover Dam, you’ll enjoy a presentation of the Glen Canyon Dam project and the Reality Capture technology used by the people who did it – Shaan Hurley, David Winslow, and Rama Dunayevich. Read more here.

Whatever you choose to do, remember that AU Orientation is at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, followed by the Welcome Reception at 6:30 p.m. in the Hub. And you can learn your way around the conference with a guided Orientation Tour—they leave from the Hub all day Monday as well as Tuesday morning.

There’s something for everyone happening in the lead-up to AU.
