AU is all about the future of making things. Usually that means taking a look at how the fields of architecture, construction, design, manufacturing, and media & entertainment will be changing in the next 3-5 years. This year at AU, we’ll also be looking a bit further down the line—to the year 2049, to be exact—to explore the future of making synthetic humans.
That’s right, people: as part of AU 2017 in Las Vegas, we’ll have a special screening of Blade Runner 2049! (Can you tell we’re geeking out already?)
Set 30 years after the first original Blade Runner, the new film, starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, and a creepy-looking Jared Leto, looks like it’ll be a fitting follow-up to one of the greatest science fiction movies of all time. The flying cars are back, the smoky film-noir cityscapes are back, and of course the replicants are back. It looks like it’ll be a mind-bending experience, and where better to enjoy it than at AU, with thousands of engineers, architects, and designers helping to create a future that isn’t nearly so bleak?
Framestore VFX Supervisor Richard Hoover will be in conversation with Autodesk on Tuesday, November 14 at 5:30 p.m. detailing how to tell if you’re a replicant (you never know!) followed by a screening of Blade Runner 2049. You can also attend his AU 2017 industry talk on Wednesday, November 15, 3:45-4:45 p.m to learn about the visual artistry and tools that contributed to the film’s distinct look.
