PAUSE on Smart Cities, Society 5.0 and the Next Generation of Designers

One of our favourite things to do on the Design Studio Blog is to have rich conversations with smart people. The Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association’s (APMA) Colin Dhillon talked with us in 2021 about the future of mobility and technology, its immersive impact on our world as we know it.

The APMA has also hosted a design competition for young automotive designers, giving them the opportunity to consider zero emissions and accessibility as part of next generation vehicles.

A Society 5.0 and Vehicle-to-Everything

Global communication network concept. Worldwide business. Diversity.

This was our first chance to talk with Colin about the potential futures ahead of us. Colin shares his understanding of where we are now and the need for us to balance a human-centered approach with an economic innovation mindset.

The Smart City: Mobility, Infrastructure, Opportunity

And then we went deeper to look at what this means in practice: how sustainability, innovation and environmental stewardship become part of the conversation on ethical design.

Project Arrow: A Journey to a Better Life?

Colin brought these ideas and the APMA’s electric vehicle design competition outcomes to his Advanced Manufacturing keynote at AIF 2022.
