One of the newcomers in terms of our Copy Design commands for 2016, is the "Copy To" option. Unlike Copy, Copy All, Copy Top Nodes and Copy Branch which all result in new file copies going to the same location as the source file, "Copy To" allows us to select the destination folder as part of the Copy operation.
Using the folder Panel we can manually change our file destinations after setting them to copy, simply dragging and dropping files or even their folders to a new location (more on that next post), but Copy To removes the need for an additional step, allowing you to create a new folder on the fly, or select a different existing folder destination.
You will see in this quick video example we load multiple files to the current Copy Design session and set the top nodes to copy. This copies the new files to the same location as the source files, reflected in target folder path tooltip. To check this, run your cursor over the folder icon in the main grid to reveal the new file path.
Switching over to the folder panel though we can see much more detail, reviewing the source and destination folders for all files included in the Copy configuration.
Selecting a group of files for "Copy To" we create a new folder for the files and once set we can see the new folder in the Folder Panel view and its path as a tooltip on the folder icon beside the file, completing the copy configuration in one step.
With the new folder created, additional files can be copied to the same location by hitting "Copy To" and selecting it in the target folder dialog.
As with file numbering, no folders are actually created until we click the go button, so you can back out of folder creation at any time before then, once completed though, the folders are built and your files copied to their new location.
