Under the Hood - All things PDM and PLM

OK, so we have had an overview of the new Copy Design interface, now let's just go and look at how to do a copy.

We'll start simple, I am going to use a default numbering scheme, the default rules and just do a real basic copy of a few parts to the same folder (Not messing around with the folder paths – we'll do that soon though).

To save a little typing I have created the quick Screencast video below.  A few things to note in addition to the settings above, I have set drawings and parents to automatically copy, you will see when I copy one of the dependent files the assembly is automatically set to copy.

Also, while we do not see the presentation files or drawings, these are automatically copied and renamed to match the assembly.

You'll notice too the copy happens very quickly now, this video is all in real time of a Vault client connected to a remote server, but because we no longer need to download files the copy itself is very fast, a big enhancement over the older Copy Design method.

So there you have it, couldn't be simpler, with a few default settings and a little configuration we can execute a copy and build out our new design variation.
