Digging a little further into what's new in Vault 2017 (make sure you have seen Anil's compulsory viewing post on the new security paradigm here) we take a look at the most requested Copy Design enhancement, the folder list view.
When we launched the new Copy Design interface, one of the major changes was addition of the panel views and a folder tree view that allowed you to drag and drop files or folders in the structure to generate new folders, and set copy status. I provided an overview of the advantages of this approach here. However there are some cases, say where there are more complex naming requirements over multiple levels of the structure where typing in a path or modifying the path text is simpler, especially when we can use find replace to change whole strings.
This is where the folder list view comes in, users can now from the file grid, view the source file path and by configuring the file action, (Copy, Copy To), view the destination path which can be edited manually, by clicking on the ellipsis button or doing a find and replace action which allows multiple paths to be edited at one time.
Other than this the process behaves as it previously had, you are able to toggle between folder list and tree views to preview the new folder structure or drag and drop files to set additional files destination and status, before you run the copy to commit these new folders to Vault.
In the simple video above I compare each of these approaches, showing the Copy To, drag and drop and then find and replace in list view to quickly change the destination path for copied files including sub folders, completely flexible and hopefully exactly what many of you out there were looking for.
