You’ve been hearing a lot at AU 2010 about mobile apps and how Autodesk is leveraging mobile devices and cloud computing to make everything simpler, faster, and more immediate. Many apps are still in the pipeline, but some are available today. Here’s a brief rundown.

Autodesk® SketchBook® Pro and Autodesk® Sketchbook® Mobile are professional-level drawing and painting programs. Incorporating the mutli-touch technology of the mobile platform, they make it easy to intuitively sketch your ideas wherever you are. Files can be imported into other Autodesk products for further refinement. Autodesk SketchBook  is available as SketchBook Pro for the Apple iPad® and as SketchBook Mobile for the iPhone®, iPod touch®, and Android platforms. Very reasonably priced and now on sale at $0.99, you can download these apps from an app store near you. If that price is too steep for you, you can download a limited version, SketchBook MobileX, to your iPhone or Android device for free.

AU 2010 featured a Mobile Art Gallery of SketchBook art. Check out the amazing art featured in this YouTube trailer.

AutoCAD® WS, available for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, enables you to view and work with AutoCAD drawings on the go. Need to show your client something quickly? Forget finding a big, flat dry spot for the drawings—just open up AutoCAD WS on your iPad. If the client wants changes, no problem. Just put them in and AutoCAD WS saves the file to your online workspace in the cloud. You can even work on a drawing with other people at the same time.

Autodesk Inventor® Publisher Mobile Viewer enables you to view animated 3D assembly instructions created with Autodesk Inventor Publisher. Consider it a whole new way to deliver technical documentation. Want to see how that part fits together? Just touch for an exploded view or an animated demonstration. Imagine equipping a service team with an iPad instead of a box of binders. Mobile Viewer is free and works on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

Autodesk® Fluid FX is just too much fun for a free app. (It’s on “sale” right now, don’t delay!) Use one of the provided pictures or one of your own, then go crazy with Hollywood-like special effects. Use all 10 fingers to warp, swirl, and ignite pictures. Save snapshots or display standard or HD video of your creations on your television. You can even put Fluid FX on autopilot as a piece of kinetic art. Be careful, though, your mother-in-law may not appreciate seeing flames shooting from her head. Autodesk Fluid FX works on the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

That’s the current Autodesk mobile lineup, but expect more. See you around town and in the cloud!
