You may know Rivian from our earlier feature about the incredible work they’re doing in the EV market. Their R1T pick-up truck and R1S SUV offer adventurous drivers an electric option. Designed in Alias and visualized with VRED, these EVs are a solution to shift consumer mindset and inspire other companies to change the way they operate.
Autodesk University 2023 was an exciting two days of industry and customer news, presentations, and updates. We’re delighted that Rivian was a significant presence there.
A few highlights.
Design and Make Award for Accelerating Transformation
Rivian was presented with the prestigious Design and Make Award for Accelerating Transformation at the AU ceremony on November 12th.
Hero Customer Exhibit
In the AU Expo Hall, Rivian had an incredible Hero Customer exhibition in the AU Expo Hall. The exhibit included:
- A physical Rivian R1T truck for attendees to view
- A configurator showing VRED and an interactive model of the Rivian R1T and R1S (their SUV), where a customer could animate the model, change the interior and exterior colors, wheels, and tumble the vehicle around
- Physical exterior paint and interior material samples
- Several prototype parts from the prototyping team
- Videos showing a walkthrough of their manufacturing facility in Illinois
Featured Design & Make Customer
Notably, they featured in Autodesk CEO Andrew Anagnost’s opening AU keynote with Jeff Kinder, where a video showcased how they’re using Autodesk technology to keep that accelerated pace:
- VRED in the Design Studio for VR, design reviews, and collaboration
- Fusion for CAM used by their prototyping team in Michigan to create both additive and subtractive parts
- Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) that they used to manage all their facility projects including their plant in Illinois, service centers, sales hubs, and charging stations
Rivian was also a case study during the Design & Make (D&M) Industry Forum, led by PDMS Executives, with a special appearance by Jeff Hammoud, Rivian’s Chief Design Officer.
And Trevor Greene presented a shorter version of his AIF 2023 – “Rivian: Digitization of a Sustainable Design Studio” – in a theater talk for D&M audience.
AU classes
In true Rivian fashion, the team also shared what they know. Rivian gave two classes at AU: Dimitrii Pokrovski & Mac Little spoke on “How Rivian Automotive Uses ACC Data Analytics to Help Manage 100’s of Active Projects,” and Matthew Yates & Josh Patel addressed “How Multi-Tasking Machines And Fusion Can Help You Increase Throughput.”
