The D3D 30 is DEVELOP3D’s annual round-up of 30 new technologies. These technologies are chosen because they have are potentially the most impactful in the product development processes of D3D readers.
Companies and technologies from around the world are chosen by the DEVELOP3D editorial team entirely on the basis of merit – no entry fee, no black-tie ceremony, no pay for play.
The goal for these awards is to help DEVELOP3D’s readers identify the latest tools that will help them design and build the products of the future.
DEVELOP3D was launched in 2008, aiming to write in-depth, hands-on reviews to help company that rely on technologies get the most out of them. The magazine is published monthly in digital and print editions.
Autodesk Alias Control Puck
Alias 2025’s new Control Puck was chosen for its “speedy selection,” a new way for users to access their most frequently used tools, editors, menu items, and navigation controls.
Users are essentially going from this view in their workflow
to this view
DEVELOP3D calls the new Alias “more capable than any previous release” and has this to say about the Control Puck:
“The puck is fully customisable, so new users can add and organise tools as they learn. For casual users, work becomes more intuitive. Expert users, meanwhile, can add high use or special settings at a click.
Whatever your level, a key function reduces the amount of mouse travel, speeding up workflows – especially for viz teams that love large monitors. The Custom Puck is made up of a centre, an inner ring, and one or more outer rings, so the number of tools made available is entirely at the user’s discretion.”
Autodesk was also recognized in the D3D 30 2023 Awards for its overhaul of the user experience in VRED 2024.
The 2024 editions of Alias and VRED brought the two solutions closer in both appearance and usability, giving them a common design language so that transition between the two is more seamless and fluid.
