Ahead of Autodesk University 2023, “The Marvels” promotion takes over the new Las Vegas landmark, Sphere

Autodesk and Marvel Studios’ “The Marvels” only in theatres, have teamed up to create a mesmerizing ad on Sphere in Las Vegas to celebrate the recently released film and to showcase the prominent role Autodesk’s Design and Make platform plays across the media and entertainment industry. Top animation, VFX, and entertainment studios rely on Autodesk technology to create many of today’s most visually striking games, TV shows, and movies like “The Marvels.”

A crew of talented artists from The Mill, a world-renowned visual effects studio and notable Autodesk customer — designed the stunning visual for the spot. With the help of Autodesk Maya, The Mill showcases the intricate details of one of the film’s most charming characters at breathtaking scale, Goose the flerken. Standing tall at around 350 feet, the ad sees Goose – at first glance a harmless ginger cat – transform into her true tentacled alien form.

You can see how everything came together to create the ad in this “behind-the-scenes” video.

“What an honor to  create the ad to promote ‘The Marvels,’ said Jocelyn Birsch, Director of Experience, The Mill. “Our creative process was elevated thanks to Autodesk’s tools. From Autodesk Maya for 3D animation to Arnold for 3D rendering, these tools enabled us to bring the extraordinary to larger-than-life. This collaboration with ‘The Marvels’ and Autodesk exemplifies the limitless potential of technology and storytelling.”

Working with a 3D model of Las Vegas within Maya enabled The Mill to ensure that viewers will enjoy the ad from many different angles. Maya was used throughout the design and production process, including lighting, rigging, animation, fur creation, and camera testing.

“Collaborating with Autodesk on ‘The Marvels’ activation has been an amazing experience,” Birsch said. “Autodesk’s suite of creative tools, from 3D modeling to animation, allowed us to explore new frontiers of creativity. We’re honored to have been part of this project, and we’re excited to share this visual spectacle with the world.”

This activation and corresponding ad is timed to appear in the run up to Autodesk’s biggest customer event of the year, Autodesk University 2023: The Design & Make Conference, which takes place from Nov. 13-15. The ad runs on Sphere from Nov. 7-13, and will help welcome more than 10,000 Autodesk customers flying into Las Vegas for AU.

This is an amazing demonstration of the synergy between technology, storytelling, and creative talent. As Autodesk continues to revolutionize the content creation landscape, this collaboration stands out as a shining example of the limitless possibilities that emerge when industry leaders come together.
